To 70 cms. Candelabra style primula. From mid spring, stout stems carry tiered whorls of flowers. The striking red/orange buds open to orangey yellow. Some shade best and moist soil. Winter dormant.
Roscoea auriculata
30 – 45 cms. Long, lance-shaped, grass green leaves. The brilliant purple flowers resemble orchids and display white to pale violet markings on each plant. Plant the tubers deeply in light shade on the edge of the woodland garden. Good winter drainage is best. Summer flowering. Winter dormant.

To 80 cms. Stunning star-shaped, purple-spotted flowers in autumn. These toad lilies are great for adding an exotic touch to the garden as well as vertical interest. These rhizomatous perennials are best grown in a sheltered or shady spot - moisture required. Winter dormant.
Dicentra spectabilis 'Valentine'
30 to 50 cms in height. Deep salmon pink flowers with a white tip in spring. Large, puffy heart-shaped flowers dangle from the leafless stems. Emerging foliage has a tinge of purple. Part shade and good drainage. (Commonly called the ‘Red’ variety). Winter dormant.
Hypoxis hirsuta
To 20 cms. Low, tufted, grass-like perennial,. Eastern yellow star-grass grows from a hard, hairy corm. The hairy, grass-like leaves originate from the base of the plant. Slender, thread-like flowering stems may be erect or reclining. They carry star-shaped, yellow flowers below the top of the leaves. Flowers in winter and spasmodically throughout the seasons.
