Scabiosa caucasica 'Blue Mountain'
Height to 60 cms. Masses of large blue flowers on tall stalks. Remove old flowers to prolong flowering spring to autumn. Sun, good drainage.
Scabiosa caucasica 'Fama White'
A superior variety. To 80 cms. Forms a compact mould. Long stems bear large, frilly white blooms summer to autumn, that are ideal for picking. Sun or part shade. Lovely, popular border perennial.
Stokesia 'Peachie's Pick'
To 45 cms. Compact and late flowering with large, fluffy, cornflower-like blue flowers late summer to autumn. Sun. Suits moist, sandy but well-drained soil, good drought tolerance. Not too wet in winter. Remove spent flowering stems to encourage additional blooms. Rock garden, front of border, cottage garden. Winter dormant.
Cimicifuga racemosa
(Bugbane). To 1.2 metres.. Tall wands of creamy white bottle-brush flowers are held high above bright green, lacy foliage from mid-summer onwards. Splendid for cutting! Bugbanes prefer a moist, rich soil, away from hungry tree roots. Will tolerate full sun in cool summer regions, otherwise be sure to protect from hot afternoon sun. Winter dormant.
Phlomis tuberosa 'Bronze Flamingo'
Rare. Abundant lavender pink hooded flowers on dark burgundy stems from late spring to summer. Specimen plant. Sun and well drained soil with medium moisture. Tolerates some drought. Attractive to bees and butterflies. Winter dormant.
